Candle Care
We want to make sure that you get the most out of your Building 18 Candles. Please read the below guidelines for candle care and tips.
- The First Burn
- When lighting for the first time, burn the candle until wax melts across the entire surface up to the sides of the vessel as this will prevent tunneling, and create an even burn for the duration of usage. This could take up to 2-4 hours.
- Trim Your Wicks
- Trim your wick before every lighting. The wick should be 1/4" in length. Keeping it this length will avoid mushrooming which can result in necessary soot. This also controls the size of the flame. We recommend trimming your wick on a cooled candled to prevent soot from falling into the hot wax.
- How To Handle Soot
- If soot forms inside the vessel, extinguish the candle. Next, wait for it to cool, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Trim the wick and relight.
- Extinguishing A Candle
- We recommend that you use a snuffer to extinguish the candle. Do not blow out as this could cause the hot wax to splatter. Do not touch or move the candle until it has cooled.
- Keep Away from Windy Spaces
- Avoid drafts, vents or air currents. This will help in preventing rapid or uneven burning, soot, and excessive dripping.
